Руководитель Overwatch снова уютно сидел у камина и ничего не делал. Но в этот раз ему помогли
Yule log («рождественское полено») — жанр видеороликов, где показывают, как горит камин. Иногда к камину добавляют людей, которые задумчиво сидят рядом и ничего не делают. Команда Overwatch уже упражнялась в этом жанре в прошлом году, а теперь решила повторить эксперимент.
В конце 2017-го католическое Рождество с игроками отмечал Джефф Каплан (Jeff Kaplan), руководитель Overwatch. Новый Yule log тоже начался с Каплана: он просидел у камина около часа и всё засматривался на печеньки, которые стояли рядом. Когда разработчик дотянулся до печенья, он с огорчением узнал, что в кружке по соседству нет молока. Со словами «Никто в маленькой инди-компании не подумал о молоке!» Каплан вышел из кадра.
И затем стали приходить гости. Каждый грелся у «рождественского полена» в районе полутора часов и получил из лутбокса особый подарок. Кроме Каплана в Yule log приняли участие:
• Мэтт Мерсер (Matt Mercer) — актёр, озвучивающий Маккри. Достал из лутбокса шарф своего героя.
• Джейкоб Лайон (Jacob Lyon), более известный под ником JAKE, — игрок команды Houston Outlaws и один из комментаторов киберспортивных событий Overwatch. Достал из лутбокса LEGO «Бастион».
• Шарлет Чанг (Charlet Chung) — актриса, озвучивающая D.Va. Достала из лутбокса Doritos и Mountain Dew чипсы и «Нано-колу».
• Зои Гшвинд-Пенски (Soe Gschwind-Penski) — комментатор и ведущая киберспортивных событий Overwatch. Достала из лутбокса блокнот и фломастер, нарисовала ими Трейсер.
Затем в кресло снова вернулся Джефф (уже с молоком!). К сожалению, другие гости съели всё печенье. На помощь пришёл лутбокс — заветная печенюшка оказалась там. Yule log закончился рождественским поздравлением от Каплана. Видео получилось на восемь часов.
Скорее всего, людей не заставляли торчать у камина столько времени: в прошлом году Yule log растянули на десять часов при помощи хитростей монтажа. Но, как и в прошлом году, ничегонеделанье разбавили разными забавными моментами: например, Чанг снимала селфи, а Мерсер в какой-то момент мечтательно произнёс: «Папа Каплан». Вчера разработчики Overwatch сумели взбудоражить игровое сообщество, устроив некий… ивент, который заключался в том, что Джефф Каплан десять часов (десять, Карл!) сидел у камина и смотрел в камеру, периодически (редко) выдавая что-нибудь забавное. На пике трансляцию смотрело около сорока тысяч человек!

Burning a Yule log is probably the oldest Christmas tradition there is and gets its name from Scandinavia It started even before the first Christmas. At first, burning a Yule log was a celebration of the winter solstice (точка зимнего солнцестояния). Days would start getting longer after the solstice.
